Burleith and Glover Park
WHAT YOU'LL SEE!
Burleith is a community of small single-family row houses in NW DC. The 535 houses in the neighborhood were mostly developed in the 1920's. The neighborhood is wholly residential, forming a small oasis of peaceful greenery nestled alongside Glover-Archbold Park.
Glover Park includes both sides of Wisconsin Avenue from Whitehaven Parkway to Calvert Street and then extends northward on the west side of Wisconsin to Fulton Street. Its western boundary is 42nd street along the edge of Glover-Archibald Park. Glover Park is a neighborhood of row houses, four unit buildings, apartment buildings and a busy commercial strip of Wisconsin Avenue. Residents appreciate the convenience and hometown atmosphere of the neighborhood and its beautiful natural setting.
Glover Park is named for Washingtonian Charles Carroll Glover, an influential late 19th and early 20th century banker and philanthropist. He is credited with the creation of the city’s Rock Creek Park system and with an influential role in the creation of Embassy Row through generous land donations. He is also considered the father of the National Zoo and Rock Creek Parkway. The family of Charles Glover pronounces their last name so that it rhymes with “cover.” However, many people in Washington, including longtime residents, newcomers, and even the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) pronounce the name so it rhymes with “clover.”
